Pushing a record button on a recording device is something everyone is probably able to do. Every cellphone these days is able to record sound. Fieldcore aims to address to artists and enthusiasts who are willing to push the limits to finally capture the ultimate recording and at the same time being environmental friendly. Being one with your surroundings and living the recording process. It was never said that creating a climate neutral work was easy.

This manifest should be read as an inspirational guide to become a Fieldcore recordist. The manifest is a list of thoughts for creating a recording of which one can say it repesents and respects it’s origin. Thinking about the choices you make, and why you made them, to do a recording is the reason for this list of principles.

When creating a work in a Fieldcore way you should aim to respect the following principles;

The artist uses green energy at all times. Think about buying rechargeable batteries for your portable equipment. And where possible try to switch to a ecofriendly electricity supplier at home/work.
A Fieldcore recording made with durable equipment. Mobile phones for example are not very durable.
The artist should be physical present while recording. Installing recording equipment and leaving the location is not allowed. It is also allowed to instruct someone to do the recording for you.
The artist will not directly be audible in the recording and will also try not to evoke any reaction of the location itself.
The artist may not manipulate the recording location in any way. Besides his/her physical presence.
The artist and his recording gear should try to blend in.
A Fieldcore recording will last as long as it needs to be a proper representation of the location or situation. The duration may also be derived from the endurance of the recording artist. A Fieldcore recording aims to reflect the character/conditions of the environment.
No editing. Brief fades at the beginning and end of a work are allowed. A Fieldcore recording may be part of a longer recording.
Filtering is only allowed when used to make the recording resemble the original situation more. Fieldcore is not about an ideal acoustical world.
The work should be climate neutral
The work should be made within a reasonable distance from the artists residence. Traveling to and from the recording location should be done by environmental neutral/friendly transportation.
The artist should dwell at the recording location long enough to get a proper feel of the spot. Preferably by visiting this spot under different conditions
The artist will leave no sustainable marks at the recording location
If possible the artist will measure dBA level when starting the recording, also GPS location, time and date will be noted.
Trying to grab a complete location. The recording should represent the location as close as possible.
The artist will try to record the sound impression to be as natural as possible. No over exaggerated or isolated sounds. It is allowed to mix a sound in when not picked up by the main microphone system.
The recording should be at least stereo. Shotgun mics, parabolic discs etc. Are not allowed as main microphone system.
If not mentioned in the above guidelines. A Fieldcore artist should try to think in the spirit of this manifest to handle a unforeseen situation. Mentioning the solution of a problem to the group is appreciated.
A Fieldcore recording tries to explore the boundaries of the medium and human perception itself. Extremely quiet (at the verge of silence) or very loud recordings or the sound of a single object.
