About

Mission

Fieldcore is an initiative of Lasse-Marc Riek, Olivier Nijs & Tobias Fischer. After organizing an event called Whatnight #3 about Data Aesthetics in 2009 the idea came to light to create a community for promoting the hardcore field recording artist.  About real intensive listening and recording. To mark the borders of Fieldcore they drew up a manifest. Which should be read as a stimulation for recordists to work in the spirit of Fieldcore. It’s about living the recording process.

Goal

The goal of the community is to create more attention of the common man for the beauty of the unprocessed field recording. Creating presentation opportunities.
For 2010 the program is concentrated around the Fieldcore Fest. A 8 – 12 hour event. For this event a worldwide call will be out for recordists to participate. After this first (climate neutral) edition the event is free for everyone who is willing to organize this event in his or her hometown. Detailed conditions are published later.

Green Society

For the Fieldcore community soundscape preservation and natural silence plays a crucial role. It’s easy to complain about big companies polluting the environment and not undertaking any actions yourself. So Fieldcore tries to be greener than green. Thinking about the consequences of your actions is the entrance to a green society. Being in sync with nature.

The Hi-Fi Soundscape
(from The Soundscape by R. Murray Schafer p.43)

A hi-fi soundscape is a soundscape possessing a favorable signal-to-noise ratio. The hi-fi soundscape is one in which discrete sounds can be heard clearly because of the low ambient noise level. The country is generally more hi-fi than the city; night more than day; ancient times more than modern. In the hi-fi soundscape, sounds overlap less frequently; there is perspective – foreground and background.
The quiet ambience of the hi-fi soundscape allows the listener to hear farther in ti the distance just as the countryside exercises long-range viewing.

Fieldcore is starting to see the light. If you are feeling you should be involved or you want to put in suggestions to make Fieldcore even more Fieldcore. Drop us a line: info [at] fieldcore [dot] net
